A father and a son. Two completely different worlds. And a boat to bring back to life. On one side, a manager and banker, with years of experience in leadership, people management and decision-making. On the other, a young naval engineer, full of energy, technical knowledge and a strong desire to build something with his own hands.<\/p>
Neither of us had any previous experience restoring a wooden boat. Yet, plank by plank, screw by screw, challenge after challenge, we brought Tina back to the water.<\/p>
Along the way, we learned something fundamental:<\/p>
A team is not created because people are the same. A team is created when people learn how to make the most of their differences.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tFOUR AND A HALF YEARS OF TEAM BUILDING \u2014 BEFORE WE EVEN KNEW IT<\/span><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRestoring Tina meant designing, discussing, making mistakes, changing plans, finding solutions and, above all, learning to trust each other.<\/p>
My father’s experience in managing people met the technical background of a naval engineer.<\/p>
Sometimes experience prevailed.
Sometimes technical knowledge did.
And sometimes, neither was enough.<\/p>
Because when you are working on a wooden boat that has been sailing for more than fifty years, there isn’t always a manual with the right answer.<\/p>
